Default Shedding problems

Hi all, im new to the forum and also new to caring for my ball pyton. i have had him now for 10 months and have had problems recently with his shed. he seems to shed quite often once every month and a half and when he does it seems to take forever. i was wondering if anybody has any suggestions on how to help him shed more effectively. i have a heat pad on one side and keep aheat light on all the time i spray him with a shedding spray i bought from the pet store and have a log in the aquarium to help him rub but it doesnt seemto help. he always seems to have shed on his eyes and im not sure how to get it off. any help would be appreciated.

thanks in advance
mark

Mark,

What are the floor temps on the hot side? Balls don't need lighting since they are nocturnal and you may be drying out the inclosure using one.

To help get the excess shed that's on him right now, take a snake bag or a pillow case and wet it, ring it out and put the snake in it tie closed and put back into inclosure (with light off) for about an hour. When you pull him out of the bag he should have most of the shed off if not all.

What we do when our snakes are in shed is to spray them down after they go from the cloudy blue to clear. Within a day or two you should see a nice clean shed come off, if inclosure conditions are correct. A clean shed looks like a rolled condom, sorry only way I can explain it.

If you could, why don't you give us some details about your inclosure including pics if you can, so we can help figure out why he's not shedding right for you. Size of tank/tub, heat source, substrate, floor temps hot and cool side, water bowl size, bp size, etc. Also is there anything else that may see off to you about your bp?

Thanks for your quick response. I tried the wet pillowcase and it helped alot though not all the shed came off. I will try again tommorow. I will take some pics and post them soon but for some info my tank is 20 gallons and I have a repti pad under tank heater for a 30 gallon tank. The temp on the heated side is low 80s and not sure about the cool side. I use aspen substrate and the water bowl holds about 2 cups. Bp is about 2 foot long and pretty thick he has a very good appetite and has never had a problem feeding. I give him live mice and small rats every so often. Will post pics soon.

Thanks again for the quick response!

Mark
